Chalver Museum of Ancient Writing

Preserving the world's undeciphered scripts since 1987

Welcome to the Chalver Museum

The Chalver Museum of Ancient Writing is a small, independent research institution dedicated to the preservation and study of ancient writing systems, with particular focus on undeciphered scripts and proto-languages.

Founded in 1987 by Dr. Harold Chalver, the museum maintains a unique collection of artifacts, reproductions, and research materials related to some of humanity's most enigmatic written communications. From Linear A to the Phaistos Disc, from Rongorongo to proto-Elamite, we explore the mysteries of scripts that have yet to reveal their secrets.

Our Mission

In an age of instant communication, we preserve and study the writing systems that once connected ancient civilizations but now remain silent mysteries. Through careful research and scholarly collaboration, we work to unlock these ancient messages and understand the peoples who created them.

Current Research

Dr. Catherine Morrison, our Research Director, leads ongoing investigations into pattern recognition across undeciphered scripts, exploring potential connections between geographically and temporally distant writing systems. Her work on theoretical proto-language frameworks has been published in several academic journals.

Recent Updates

March 2024: Dr. Morrison will be away from the museum for an extended research project. During this period, the museum will maintain limited hours. Please check back for updates or email info@chalvermuseum.org for current availability.
